Skill in Starlight Filter

Author: stepok

Starlight Filter is a useful function of Turbo Photo. But most user will find it has two shortcomings:

1, Too Slow: some photos will take minutes to process.
2, Can not control where the starlight appears.

Now, this article will introduce a skill to solve the above problems.

The basic principle of startlight filter is the program find the highlight part and add starlight on it. The more highlight area, The more slowly.

In sum, the skill we are discussing is:
Step 1:Decrease the brightness of all
Step 2:Add white spots back by using 'painting mode' to where you want the 'stars'.
Step 3: run 'Startlight filter' to get the perfect result.

Let's do it step by step:

After open a photo file, choose 'Professional Histograms' function from popup-menu of 'Exposure'

Then, drag the last control point down (a little down), which means decrease the brightness of highlight a little.

The output photo seems have no change, but actually, there are no pure white( highlight) pixels any more. And the starlight filter only effect on highlight pixels.

After that, we enter 'painting mode', choose a brush with at least 5 pixels radius, B<10%, Fore ground color = white(important).

Use 'free paint' tool to click on where you want the stars.

This step is very important. ( Maybe you can not find any difference between original and the result of this step, That's OK because the difference will only appear after last step. see following)

Finally when we use starlight filter, you will find its speed become fast, and the stars appears on where we clicked.
Adjust the Range and amount parameters to get best result:

This skill can be applied on any photo you want, flexible and powerful.

Remember the key step: After decrease the brightness in 'Professional Histograms', use white brush (R >5 pixel,B=0% ), to click on where you want the stars.
